On April 22, 2026, shortly after 6:30 p.m., officers with Natuashish RCMP were dispatched to a report of an assault in progress at a home on Katshinak Street. When police arrived, the victim reported that a man had entered the dwelling without permission and physically assaulted him. The suspect reportedly left the scene on foot, but the victim was able to identify the attacker to police by name.

Two days later, on April 24, 2026, at approximately 11:45 a.m., RCMP officers located the suspect in Natuashish. When officers attempted to arrest him, he allegedly tried to avoid being taken into custody and did not follow police directions. He was subsequently arrested.

The accused has been identified by police as 34-year-old Benjamin Matthew Rich. He has been charged with the following offences under the Criminal Code of Canada:

Following his arrest, Rich was held in custody to appear in provincial court on Monday, April 27, 2026. At that appearance, he was remanded into custody and is scheduled to return to court again on Wednesday (as stated by police).
