Cold Lake RCMP seize drugs and handgun after stolen vehicle arrest

On the night of May 4, 2026, officers from the Cold Lake RCMP launched an investigation into a stolen vehicle found at a commercial property in Cold Lake South, Alberta. Around 10:30 p.m., police located the vehicle and, through subsequent investigation, identified multiple people believed to have been in possession of it.
Three residents from Big Island, Saskatchewan were taken into custody in connection with the stolen vehicle. A search of the individuals and the vehicle, carried out at the time of their arrest, led to the discovery of illegal drugs, a loaded firearm and items commonly linked to drug trafficking. All three suspects now face multiple criminal charges.

During the search related to this stolen vehicle investigation, officers reported seizing:
- Approximately 100 grams of suspected cocaine
- Approximately 200 grams of suspected methamphetamine
- A loaded handgun
- Additional paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking activity
According to the RCMP, three individuals from Big Island, SK, aged 35, 47 and 39, have been charged as follows:

- Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking
- Possession of a controlled substance
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
- Possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition
- Possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
Charges for the 47-year-old individual
- Possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition
- Possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle
- Possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
- Possession of a controlled substance
Charges for the 39-year-old individual
- Possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition
- Possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000

The 35-year-old and 47-year-old were brought before a Justice of the Peace and were remanded into custody. They are scheduled to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Cold Lake on May 7, 2026. The 39-year-old was released from custody with conditions and is expected to appear in the same court on June 17, 2026.
