On the night of April 15, 2026, a snowmobiler travelling from the Hopedale area toward Nain was reported overdue, prompting a coordinated response by Hopedale RCMP and local Ground Search and Rescue (GSAR) volunteers. The man was eventually found on an unmarked trail after his machine suffered a mechanical failure.

At approximately 10:15 p.m., officers from Hopedale RCMP received the report of the missing rider. GSAR volunteers were activated, searched the area, and successfully located the snowmobiler. He was cold but otherwise in good condition, did not require medical treatment, and was safely returned to his family the same night.
