Kelowna RCMP Arrest Suspect After Rapid Stolen Truck Recovery

Incident on April 14, 2026 – Stolen Pickup in Winfield
In the early hours of April 14, 2026, a Ford pickup truck was reported stolen from a private residence in Winfield. Later that morning, members of the Kelowna RCMP Proactive Enforcement Unit located the truck and initiated surveillance. Once it was safe to do so, officers, assisted by the Police Dog Service and police service dog Nessel, arrested a male driver and a female passenger. The stolen truck was recovered undamaged and there were no reported injuries during the arrest.
Linked Incident on April 4, 2026 – Stolen Commercial Vehicle
Earlier in the month, on April 4, 2026, the Kelowna RCMP received a tip from a concerned citizen about a stolen commercial vehicle being driven in the Winfield area. When the driver was confronted, he fled the scene, but photographs and other evidence were obtained. Investigators later connected this commercial vehicle theft to the pickup truck incident, leading to a combined file for charge approval.
Accused and Approved Charges
The male suspect has been identified as Simon Bell. Following the joint investigation of both April incidents, Crown has approved the following charges against him:
- Two counts of theft of motor vehicle
- Two counts of possession of stolen property
- Two counts of possession of stolen credit cards and identity documents
- Possession of break-in instruments, allegedly contrary to a probation order
- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
- Six counts of driving while prohibited
- Two counts of driving while licence suspended
Bell is currently in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on May 4, 2026.
