Nipawin RCMP: SUV collides with police cruiser, woman charged

On the evening of May 15, 2026, officers from Nipawin RCMP responded to a reported theft in Choiceland, Saskatchewan, which led to a high-speed attempt to evade police and a collision with a stationary police vehicle near Nipawin. An adult woman from Sandy Bay has now been charged in connection with fleeing from police, dangerous driving, and an assault on a police officer arising from this incident.
The events unfolded after police tracked down an SUV believed to be linked to the theft report. When officers tried to stop the vehicle in the White Fox area, the SUV accelerated away. A short time later, as the suspect vehicle approached Nipawin on Highway 35 west of the bridge, RCMP positioned a marked police cruiser in the westbound lane to halt traffic. The SUV drove into the parked police vehicle, disabling both vehicles. Three people from the SUV were arrested at the scene, and no physical injuries were reported to either the officer or the occupants.

According to the official report, the incident began at approximately 8:30 p.m. on May 15, 2026, when Nipawin RCMP received a call about an individual leaving a business in Choiceland, SK with unpaid merchandise. The person was last seen departing in an SUV.
Responding officers located a vehicle matching the description near White Fox and attempted a traffic stop by activating police emergency lights and equipment. The SUV did not stop and instead sped away. RCMP patrolled the surrounding area to locate the fleeing vehicle.
Soon afterward, officers observed the SUV heading toward Nipawin on Highway 35, west of the bridge. Police again activated emergency equipment and positioned the police cruiser in the westbound lane to control traffic and stop the suspect vehicle. The SUV struck the parked cruiser on the passenger side, disabling both vehicles. Three occupants of the SUV were taken into custody immediately.
Following the investigation, 30-year-old Alyssa Natewayes of Sandy Bay has been charged with:
- One count of flight from a peace officer, contrary to Section 320.17, Criminal Code;
- One count of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, contrary to Section 320.13(1), Criminal Code;
- One count of assault on a police officer, contrary to Section 270.01(2), Criminal Code;
- One count of failing to comply with a release order condition, contrary to Section 145(5)(a), Criminal Code.
RCMP further report that Alyssa Natewayes was also arrested on an outstanding warrant issued by the Prince Albert Police Service.
Of the two other occupants in the SUV, one was released without charges. The second was released from custody with a charge still pending, related to the original theft complaint. Court information has not yet been sworn for this pending matter.
Alyssa Natewayes appeared in Melfort Provincial Court on May 19, 2026, with her next scheduled court appearance set for May 25, 2026.
