At approximately 9:45 p.m. on May 17, 2026, Big River RCMP received a report of a robbery involving an SUV stopped on the side of Highway 793 on Big River First Nation. Investigators determined that a group approached the vehicle, demanded the keys, and an altercation followed in which bear spray was deployed into the SUV’s interior. The suspects then took the SUV and left the scene.
The occupants of the SUV were treated by EMS and reported injuries that were described as non-life-threatening. As part of the ongoing investigation, RCMP patrols have been conducted, but the involved suspects and the vehicle have not yet been found.

Charges Laid Against Suspect
As a result of the investigation, Mariah Bill, 18, of Big River First Nation, has been charged with the following offences under the Criminal Code of Canada:
- One count – robbery with a weapon, Section 343(1)(d)
- Three counts – assault with a weapon, Section 267(a)
- One count – assault, Section 266
- One count – uttering threats against a person, Section 264.1(1)(a)
- One count – possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, Section 88(1)
- One count – weapons possession contrary to order, Section 117.01(1)
A warrant is currently in effect for her arrest, and Big River RCMP continue active efforts to locate her.
