RCMP Traffic Operation: Fleeing Drivers Stopped in Southern Victoria & Carleton North
Police in Southern Victoria and Carleton North, New Brunswick, conducted a focused two-day traffic enforcement operation between March 27 and March 29, 2026. During the operation, a 33-year-old man from Woodstock was charged, and three other men from Odell, Richmond Corner, and East Brighton were arrested after separate incidents in which vehicles fled from officers.
Members of the West District RCMP Crime Reduction Unit, with support from Perth-Andover RCMP, Western Valley RCMP, Police Dog Services, RCMP Air Services, and the Woodstock Police Force, carried out more than 200 traffic stops over two days. In three cases, vehicles refused to pull over, prompting air support and specialized tactics to bring the situations under control without injury. RCMP Message to Drivers
Investigators note a growing trend of motorists failing to stop for police in the region. Officers emphasize that refusing to pull over when directed is extremely dangerous and can lead to serious criminal charges, vehicle seizures, and court-imposed penalties. This theme is consistent with patterns we track nationally in our community safety and crime data reporting, such as through regional profiles like the Six Nations (Part) 40 safety and crime statistics page.
RCMP Air Services continues to play a critical role in these operations, providing aerial surveillance, rapid deployment capabilities, and specialized support to front-line officers in both populated and rural parts of Canada.
CrimeCanada.ca Safety Perspective
From the perspective of CrimeCanada.ca, this operation in New Brunswick highlights the serious risks created when drivers attempt to escape police rather than safely stopping. High-speed flight incidents elevate the danger for other motorists, pedestrians, and officers, and can quickly escalate into multi-vehicle or weapons-related situations, as seen with the seizure of a loaded firearm in this case.
For community safety, motorists in New Brunswick should always pull over promptly and calmly when signalled by police, remain inside the vehicle unless instructed otherwise, and avoid confrontational behaviour. Witnesses who observe dangerous driving, suspected impaired driving, or vehicles apparently attempting to evade police are encouraged to prioritize their own safety first, then contact local RCMP or emergency services with as much detail as safely possible (location, direction of travel, vehicle description). Collective vigilance and cooperation with lawful traffic stops are key tools in preventing serious roadway injuries and supporting safer communities across the province.
