For the week of March 30 to April 5, Chilliwack RCMP reported:

Section 2: Official Incident Details

Suspected Vehicle Arson – Ranchero Drive

Chilliwack Fire notified RCMP of a vehicle that was fully engulfed in flames on Ranchero Drive. After the fire was put out, officers located incendiary items nearby. Police contacted the vehicle owner, who reported last seeing the vehicle parked on the street outside their residence the previous night. The investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances of the fire.

Single-Vehicle Collision and Impaired Driver – Elk View Road

Officers responded to a single-vehicle crash on Elk View Road. The driver showed clear signs of impairment. After failing roadside screening, the driver received an Immediate Roadside Prohibition and the vehicle was towed from the scene.

Series of Assaults and Weapon Use – Trethewey Avenue and Second Location

RCMP received a report of a man assaulting a person at a facility on Trethewey Avenue. Shortly afterward, a second call reported the same man allegedly attacking another victim with a weapon at a different site. The suspect fled before officers arrived at either scene but was located soon after.

Officers recognized the man as someone already well known to police. During the arrest, he allegedly assaulted one of the officers and continued to act aggressively. He was held in custody pending a court appearance.

E-Scooter Theft and Recovery – Princess Avenue

Members of the Community Response Team were approached by a woman who reported that her e-scooter had just been stolen. Using CCTV footage, officers obtained a suspect image and traced the man to a facility on Princess Avenue, where they found him with the e-scooter nearby.

The suspect was arrested and found with other items believed to be stolen. The e-scooter was returned to its owner.

Residential Break and Enter – Janis Street

Police received a report of a break and enter at a home on Janis Street. The residents had been out for a short period and returned to find signs of forced entry and missing personal belongings. The Forensic Identification Service is assisting with the investigation.

Assaults on Security and Police – Vedder Road

A woman was reportedly loitering near a store on Vedder Road and was asked by security to move along. She allegedly assaulted the security guard, then went to a neighbouring building. When RCMP officers arrived and attempted to arrest her, she allegedly assaulted the officer as well. She was held in custody for court.

Imitation Firearm and False Identity – Princess Avenue

Officers responded to information about a woman in possession of a firearm on Princess Avenue. Upon arrival, they located the suspect and determined she was holding an imitation firearm rather than a real gun. She provided a name to officers that was later confirmed to be false.

Police subsequently established her true identity and found that she was already well known to RCMP. She was taken into custody.

Unregistered Vehicle and Impaired Driving – Yale Road

On Yale Road, an officer conducted a traffic stop on an unregistered vehicle. Checks revealed the driver did not hold a valid driver’s licence and was showing indications of impairment. A roadside test confirmed impairment, leading to an Immediate Roadside Prohibition and the vehicle being towed.

Section 3: CrimeCanada.ca Safety Perspective

From a CrimeCanada.ca perspective, this weekly snapshot underlines several ongoing safety themes for Chilliwack and the broader British Columbia community: impaired driving, property crime, weapon-related incidents (including imitation firearms), and violence directed at front-line workers. These patterns are consistent with the broader trends we monitor through our provincial and local reporting, including the Chilliwack-area crime and safety data. Residents can help reduce risk by promptly reporting suspicious behaviour, securing vehicles and homes when unattended, using lighting and cameras where possible, and avoiding confrontations with potentially impaired or aggressive individuals—leaving intervention to police. Continued community vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement are critical to maintaining and improving neighbourhood safety.
