Even small details—such as dashcam footage, unusual late-night traffic, or a newly stored side-by-side in your area—can help investigators. In many Canadian communities, including smaller municipalities and rural regions similar to those reflected in our Parkside crime statistics and safety data, theft of off-road vehicles can have a significant financial and safety impact on owners.

CrimeCanada.ca Safety Perspective

From the perspective of CrimeCanada.ca, this alert highlights how vulnerable off-road and recreational vehicles can be, particularly in semi-rural areas like many parts of New Brunswick. Stolen side-by-sides are sometimes quickly moved, resold, or used in other illegal activity, which makes early community reporting critical for recovery.

To reduce risk, we encourage owners to keep side-by-sides and ATVs locked in well-lit, secured areas whenever possible, use wheel locks or ignition kill switches, record VINs and licence plate numbers, and consider cameras or motion lighting on driveways and outbuildings. Promptly reporting suspicious activity—such as unknown vehicles towing trailers at unusual hours—gives police a better chance of stopping thefts before they spread, supporting safer neighbourhoods across the province.
