Hope RCMP responded to 262 calls for service between October 12 and 25, according to a biweekly summary released by police on October 27. Among the cases was a break and enter investigation that led to two arrests and the seizure of an ATV police say was stolen about eight years ago.

Two arrested in break-in investigation

Boston Bar RCMP responded to a reported break and enter at a property along the Trans-Canada Highway. Police said officers found several people near the scene and, with help from Police Dog Services, tracked and arrested two people who were on the property and could not explain why they were there.

Officers seized a vehicle, a trailer and an ATV linked to the two people. Police later determined the ATV had been stolen roughly eight years earlier, and that the truck had been reported stolen from Chilliwack two weeks before.

The two are expected to appear in court at a later date. Charges are pending and subject to review and approval by the BC Prosecution Service, police said.

Thefts from vehicles

Officers responded to several thefts from vehicles in the community, police said:

A vehicle stolen from Fraser Avenue was recovered in Hope later the same day. Police are also investigating the reported theft of a motorhome from a storage yard on Flood-Hope Road.

Cargo trailer taken from Ross Road

Police are investigating the theft of an enclosed white cargo trailer from a property on Ross Road. Employees arriving for work found the trailer gone and a gate on the property damaged. Police said evidence suggests the trailer was towed away by another vehicle. It has not been recovered and the investigation continues.

Impaired drivers taken off the road

Police said proactive patrols led to Immediate Roadside Prohibitions for drivers on Old Hope-Princeton Way, Union Bar Road, Kawkawa Lake Road and in downtown Hope. In one case, officers found the driver did not have a valid licence and saw drug paraphernalia in the vehicle.

By the numbers

Police are reminding residents to lock their vehicles, remove valuables and park in well-lit areas when possible, especially overnight.
