A 57-year-old Milton woman has been charged after a series of thefts from gravesites at Milton Evergreen Cemetery, Halton Regional Police said on October 28, 2026. Police said about 20 families reported items missing.

Police said the cemetery contacted them in July 2026 after families reported the thefts, which began in late June. Items reported stolen include:

The same day, investigators arrested Diana Anderson, 57, of Milton. She is charged with one count of theft under $5,000 and four counts of possession of property obtained by crime.

Police said that while some of the items may have a relatively low dollar value, many carry deep sentimental value for the families who placed them at the graves of loved ones. Because of the personal nature of the thefts and their impact on families, police said they made the investigation a priority.

More victims possible

Police said more charges are expected as investigators work to identify other victims and catalogue the recovered property. Investigators believe some families may not yet know that items were taken from their loved ones' gravesites.

Anyone who thinks items may have been stolen from Milton Evergreen Cemetery in recent months is asked to email investigators at [email protected].

Anyone with information about the investigation is asked to call the 1 District Criminal Investigations Bureau at 905-825-4777 ext. 2416.
