Mission RCMP responded to 309 calls for service between October 19 and 25, according to a weekly summary released by the detachment on October 30. Officers also carried out 25 proactive patrols of identified hot spots and five curfew checks.

Speeding on North Railway Avenue

On the morning of October 21, the detachment's Traffic Services Unit ran a safety enforcement campaign on North Railway Avenue near the West Coast Express station. Police said numerous vehicles were stopped for speeding and other infractions, including a 36-year-old Surrey man driving 91 km/h in a 40 km/h zone. His car was impounded for seven days and he received a violation ticket. Officers urged drivers to slow down in the area, which has many crosswalks, intersections, parked cars and pedestrians using the transit facilities and the skybridge.

Security guard assaulted

Around 6 p.m. on October 19, a security guard working at a property on Preston Boulevard, off the Cedar Valley Connector, called police. Police said a woman who had trespassed onto the property allegedly threatened him and spat in his face after he asked her to leave. She was arrested nearby for assault and uttering threats and released with a court date and no-contact conditions. Later that night, police said she showed up at Mission Memorial Hospital, where the guard was being checked, and staff reported she was causing a disturbance. She was arrested again and held to appear in provincial court the next day.
