Impaired Driver Crashes Into Fort McMurray Home, Facing Multiple Charges

On the evening of June 15, 2026, at around 9:00 p.m., Wood Buffalo RCMP responded to an urgent call about a suspected impaired driver in the area of 200 Lougheed Drive in Fort McMurray, Alberta. Police say the vehicle had collided with the driver’s own residence, damaging both the home and the vehicle.

Before officers arrived, the driver went inside the residence and initially refused to come out when directed by police. The individual, later identified as a 35-year-old resident of Fort McMurray, eventually exited the home and was arrested without further incident. Investigators also determined that the person was subject to a Canada-wide driving prohibition at the time of the collision.

Following the investigation, the accused is facing several Criminal Code and traffic-related charges, including allegations of impaired driving and operating a vehicle while barred from doing so. The charges laid are:

  • Operation of a conveyance while impaired
  • Operation while impaired with blood alcohol concentration over 80 mg
  • Operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited
  • Driving while unauthorized
  • Operating a motor vehicle without registration
  • Operating a motor vehicle without holding a valid operator’s licence
  • Driving an uninsured motor vehicle

The accused was held for a judicial interim release hearing and remains in custody. The individual is scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray on July 8, 2026.
