PEI RCMP: Investigation Underway in In-Custody Death

On the morning of July 16, 2026, the RCMP in Prince Edward Island responded to a report of an in-custody death at a provincial correctional facility. An inmate in their fifties was found unresponsive during routine checks, and despite prompt medical attention, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Currently, there is no evidence of foul play.

As per protocol, a police investigation is being carried out on behalf of the Office of the Coroner to fully understand the circumstances surrounding the death. The RCMP continues to cooperate closely with the Coroner’s Office during this investigation.
