A 17-year-old Alberta youth was arrested on Oct. 26, 2026, for a terrorism-related offence, according to the RCMP. The arrest followed an investigation that began in February 2026.

The case was led by the Integrated National Security Enforcement Team (INSET) in Alberta, part of the RCMP's Federal Policing Northwest Region. Police said investigators were looking into online correspondence between an online user and users affiliated with the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, also known as ISIS.

Peace bond proceedings

The RCMP said it has started proceedings against the youth through a terrorism peace bond under section 810.011 of the Criminal Code, which deals with fear of a terrorism offence.

The youth was released with conditions and was scheduled to appear in Fort McMurray Provincial Court on Nov. 3, 2026, police said.

The RCMP said the Youth Criminal Justice Act prevents it from releasing further information about those involved. Because the criminal investigation is ongoing and the matter is before the courts, the RCMP said it will not comment further at this time.

How to report concerns

The RCMP is asking the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity. Police said tips from the public help law enforcement be more effective.
