Burnaby RCMP are asking for the public’s help to identify a suspect in a package theft in South Burnaby on Sept. 28, 2026. In an appeal issued Nov. 5, police said the person’s clothing and a distinctive vehicle could help someone identify them.

Anyone with information is asked to call Burnaby RCMP at 604-646-9999 and quote file 2026-34807. Police are also reminding anyone who experiences a package theft to report it.

The appeal comes as police remind residents to be vigilant about packages left at residential doorsteps ahead of the holiday shopping season. Burnaby RCMP said they have not yet seen an increase in reported package thefts, but that the time of year when such thefts occur is approaching.

Cpl. Mike Kalanj said package thieves often operate in broad daylight, taking unattended deliveries in residential neighbourhoods.

Tips for deliveries

Burnaby RCMP offered several steps residents can take to help protect their deliveries:

  • Use tracking notifications to find out when a package arrives.
  • Bring packages inside promptly after delivery.
  • Ask the courier to require a signature, or use a secure alternative pickup location.
  • Consider doorbell cameras or security systems, which police said can deter theft and provide evidence.

For more information about community safety, police also suggested joining or starting a Block Watch.
