A 40-year-old woman from South Scots Bay has died after a single-vehicle crash in Canaan, Kings District RCMP said. The crash happened at about 11:10 p.m. on Nov. 5 in the 500-block of English Mountain Road.
Police said a Jeep Liberty left the road and struck a power pole, causing an outage in the area. RCMP officers, EHS and fire services responded after the crash was reported.
A man believed to have been an occupant of the Jeep told a nearby resident that a woman was injured, then left the area on foot, according to police. Officers found the injured woman inside the vehicle when they arrived.
EHS took the woman to hospital with life-threatening injuries. She was later pronounced dead, police said.
Efforts to find the man were unsuccessful. Police said those efforts included the use of a remotely piloted aerial system.
The road was closed for several hours while an RCMP collision reconstructionist attended the crash scene. The investigation remains ongoing.
Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash, including anyone with dashcam footage, to contact Kings District RCMP at 902-679-5555. The file number is 2026-1635146.
