On April 17, 2026, members of the Saskatchewan RCMP Lloydminster Saskatchewan Trafficking Response Team (STRT) arrested a wanted 25-year-old man in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan after locating cocaine, methamphetamine, and a firearm with an obliterated serial number linked to a local motel room. The incident unfolded near a motel on 44th Street, where officers were carrying out proactive patrols targeting drug trafficking activity.

During this operation, officers first encountered the suspect outside the motel, attempted to arrest him on an outstanding warrant, and pursued him on foot after he fled. Once he was taken into custody, officers discovered small amounts of suspected methamphetamine and cocaine on him. A search warrant was later obtained for a motel room associated with the investigation, where additional drugs, a firearm with its serial number removed, and ammunition were seized. The accused has been remanded in custody pending a court appearance.

According to the Saskatchewan RCMP, officers with the Lloydminster STRT were conducting proactive enforcement in the area of a motel on 44th Street in Lloydminster, SK on April 17. They recognized a man who was already wanted on a warrant. When officers informed him he was under arrest, he ran from the scene but was located shortly afterward and arrested.

During the arrest, police located a small quantity of suspected methamphetamine and cocaine on the individual. As part of the continuing investigation, officers obtained a judicially authorized search warrant for a room at the same motel. That search resulted in the seizure of illegal drugs and a firearm-related cache.

Accused and Charges

The accused is identified by police as 25-year-old Mackenzie Cannapotatoe from Onion Lake. As a result of this investigation, he faces multiple drug trafficking and firearm-related charges, as well as charges related to failing to follow existing court-ordered conditions.

The charges laid include:

  • One count – possession for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine, Section 5(2), Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
  • One count – possession for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine, Section 5(2), Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
  • One count – resist peace officer, Section 129(a), Criminal Code
  • Seven counts – fail to comply with release order condition, Section 145(5)(a), Criminal Code
  • Three counts – possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, Section 88, Criminal Code
  • One count – possession of a firearm with altered/defaced/removed serial number, Section 108(1)(b), Criminal Code
  • One count – unlicensed possession of a firearm, Section 91(1), Criminal Code
  • One count – unlicensed possession of a prohibited weapon with ammunition, Section 95(1)(b), Criminal Code (as described by police)
  • One count – unsafe storage of a firearm, Section 86(1), Criminal Code

In addition to these new charges, police report that Cannapotatoe was also arrested on outstanding warrants and for breaching a Conditional Sentence Order. He was remanded into custody and scheduled to appear in North Battleford Provincial Court on April 20 (Information #90579903).
