A 30-year-old man from Nova Scotia has been sentenced to three years in prison for possession of child sexual abuse and exploitation material, the New Brunswick RCMP said in a release issued November 2, 2026, from Dorchester, N.B.

Police identified the man as Jeremy Christian Thompson. He was sentenced on October 7, 2026.

How the investigation began

According to the RCMP, the case was led by the New Brunswick RCMP's Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit. It started in December 2023, after police received information about an inmate from a federal prison in New Brunswick.

On February 14, 2024, the ICE Unit worked with the RCMP Central Region Ottawa Serious and Organized Crime section and the RCMP's Digital Forensic Services to carry out a search warrant on a cellphone, police said.

The man was arrested on June 27, 2024, at a federal prison, where he was serving a previous sentence. He was charged on October 2, 2024, with possession of child sexual abuse and exploitation material.

Conviction and sentence

Thompson appeared in Moncton Provincial Court on March 4, 5 and 6, 2026, and was found guilty of possession of child sexual abuse and exploitation material, police said.

In addition to the three-year prison term, the court:

  • ordered him to register with the National Sex Offender Registry for life;
  • ordered him to provide a DNA sample;
  • set conditions he must follow for 20 years after his release from prison.

The RCMP noted that its New Brunswick Internet Child Exploitation Unit includes members of the Kennebecasis Regional Police Force.
