Seven people subject to court-ordered curfews were found to be complying with their release conditions during RCMP checks on the Burin Peninsula on Nov. 3 and 4, 2026, police said. Officers from the Marystown detachment and the RCMP Crime Reduction Unit East carried out the checks as part of an initiative focused on repeat offenders across the district.
The RCMP said the initiative was intended to verify compliance with conditions imposed by the courts. All seven people checked were complying with their release conditions.
Many of the people involved are known to police and in their communities, the RCMP said. It described compliance monitoring as a key part of reducing repeat crime and enhancing public safety. Continued monitoring and follow-up checks also allow officers to intervene quickly when conditions are breached, while recognizing and supporting people who are complying, police said.
