New Westminster police are investigating a stabbing and a related weapons incident on Front Street after a reported assault on a cyclist on Halloween night. Police received reports at about 7:20 p.m. on Oct. 31, 2026, that three suspects had assaulted a man riding a bicycle in the 400 block of Front Street.
Witnesses reported seeing the suspects leave with the man’s bicycle, police said. Officers searched the area but initially found neither the man nor the suspects.
A short time later, officers responded to a weapons incident in the 500 block of Front Street. Police said a man had been shot in the face with what was believed to be a rubber pellet gun. He suffered a cut to his head but did not cooperate with investigators.

Officers determined that the man was also a suspect in the earlier assault, police said. He was detained, taken to hospital for treatment and later released pending further investigation. The person responsible for the pellet gun incident was not found.
Later that evening, investigators learned that a man had been found in a neighbouring jurisdiction with injuries believed to have been sustained in the New Westminster assault. He was taken to hospital and treated for multiple stab wounds that were not life-threatening, police said.
Investigators later found evidence associated with the stabbing in the 400 block of Front Street. Police believe the stabbing and pellet gun incidents are connected and that the people involved knew one another. The investigation remains at an early stage.
