Earlier incident
Police said this was the second dog-related injury recently reported to the detachment. At approximately 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 31, officers responded to a report of an adult at the medical clinic who had been injured by a dog. Police located the dog, and its owners ultimately put it down after discussing the matter with officers.
The incidents are considered separate and did not involve the same dogs or owners, police said.
Safety advice
Detachment commander Staff Sgt. Scott Kirychuk said police welcome an opportunity to meet with Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation to consider next steps for community safety.
Kirychuk recommended that dog owners in the First Nation not let their dogs run free. He said a dog's behaviour may change in a pack and advised owners to keep dogs tied up or inside a fenced area.
