A loaded rifle and ammunition were seized after an arrest at a Potlotek apartment on Nov. 2, the Richmond County District RCMP said. Avery Doucette, 36, of Potlotek, faces eight charges and remains in custody.
Police received a report at about 4:45 p.m. of a person with a firearm inside an apartment on New Subdivision Road. Officers were aware that the man was subject to conditions prohibiting him from possessing firearms or ammunition, the RCMP said.
When officers arrived, other people safely left the apartment. Police confirmed Doucette was the only person still inside and had the firearm. As a precaution, officers directed people in other units in the building to temporarily evacuate.

From outside, officers saw Doucette holding a rifle and believed it was loaded, police said. He refused to comply with officers’ directions. The emergency response team, a crisis negotiator, traffic services and RCMP Police Dog Services attended to support general duty officers.
At about 9:47 p.m., officers entered the residence and safely arrested Doucette, according to the RCMP. Investigators seized a loaded .308 rifle and a variety of ammunition.
Charges and court appearance
The eight charges include two counts of careless use of a firearm, three counts of failure to comply with an undertaking and other weapons offences, police said. Doucette first appeared in court on Nov. 3 and remains in custody pending future court dates.
