RCMP Alert: Weapons Trafficking Charges in Dauphin Area
Community Safety Alert Overview
Manitoba RCMP have charged a 73-year-old man from the Rural Municipality of Dauphin with weapons trafficking and multiple firearms offences after several handguns, including guns reported stolen in the United States, were seized from his residence.
The investigation began in late March 2026 after U.S. authorities laid charges related to a stolen handgun at a Minnesota gun show. On April 15, 2026, officers executed a search warrant at a home in the RM of Dauphin, where six handguns were recovered. At least two of those firearms have been confirmed as stolen from the United States, and none of the guns were stored in line with Canadian regulations, with several found loaded.
Official Incident Details
On March 23, 2026, U.S. Customs and Border Protection notified Manitoba RCMP that a man from the Dauphin area had been charged in Minnesota after a handgun was taken during a gun show held two days earlier in Newfolden, Minnesota. The suspect was arrested on site by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, and a handgun was located in his bag. He was charged in the U.S. with felony theft, released on bail, and returned to Canada on March 28, 2026.
After learning that additional stolen weapons might be at the man’s residence in the RM of Dauphin, Manitoba, officers from the Manitoba Integrated Law Enforcement Team (MILET) and the RCMP National Weapons Enforcement Support Team (NWEST) launched a coordinated investigation. On April 15, 2026, MILET West officers, supported by NWEST, the RCMP West District Crime Reduction Enforcement Support Team, and Dauphin RCMP, executed a search warrant at the property.
During the search, officers seized six handguns. Investigators have confirmed that at least two of these firearms were stolen from the United States. None of the firearms were stored in compliance with Canadian storage requirements, and several were discovered in a loaded state, increasing the risk to public safety.
