RCMP Traffic Services East says a 41-year-old man’s vehicle was seized and his licence suspended after an officer saw a vehicle doing donuts on an exit ramp off Veterans Memorial Highway. Police said the incident happened around 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 4.
The officer was conducting proactive patrols on the highway, also known as Route 75, when police observed the vehicle on the Hodgewater Line exit ramp. The ramp leads toward Makinsons, according to the RCMP.
Police said they stopped the vehicle immediately and issued the driver a summary offence ticket for stunting under the Highway Traffic Act. The vehicle was seized at the roadside and impounded, and the man’s driver’s licence was suspended.

Stunting and its consequences
Police describe stunting as risky behaviour while operating a motor vehicle. Examples can include driving at high speeds, racing other vehicles, doing burnouts, donuts or wheelies, and other intentionally dangerous driving, according to the RCMP.
The RCMP said stunting in Newfoundland and Labrador can lead to serious charges under the Highway Traffic Act and the Criminal Code. Possible consequences include licence suspensions, vehicle impoundments, fines and jail time. Police also warned that the behaviour can put drivers and other people on the road at risk.
