Community Alert: Morris RCMP Probe Series of Suspicious Fires
RCMP Investigating Late-Night Fires in Morris, Manitoba
Morris RCMP are investigating three late-night fires that occurred within several days of each other in the town of Morris, Manitoba. All of the incidents have been deemed suspicious, and while no one was hurt, the pattern and timing of the fires are a concern for both police and the community.
The incidents took place between the night of Friday, May 29, 2026, and the late evening of June 1, 2026, in the areas of Main Street, Charles Avenue, and Charles Street West. The fires involved items set alight near public and commercial properties, including a church and a business. Officers and local firefighters responded quickly and prevented more serious damage.
Official Incident Details from Morris RCMP
According to the official information provided by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), officers in Morris responded to three separate suspicious fire calls over a period of a few days:
- May 29, 2026 – Approximately 11:00 p.m.
Police received a call about a small fire near the intersection of Main Street and Charles Avenue in Morris. A small jacket had been placed in the area and deliberately set on fire. The local fire department was dispatched, but the flames had gone out before firefighters arrived. No property damage was reported from this incident. - May 30, 2026 – Approximately 12:00 a.m. (shortly after midnight)
On the same night, about an hour after the first call, officers were sent to a reported fire at a church on Main Street. When police arrived, the fire department was already on scene and had put out a small fire in a tree and near a statue located on the church’s front lawn. Due to the heat from the fire, a window of the church was found to be cracked. No additional damage inside the church was noted. - June 1, 2026 – Approximately 11:30 p.m.
Police were called about a suspicious vehicle behind a business on Charles Street West. While responding to that call, officers noticed flames at the rear of the business. They used a fire extinguisher to control the fire until the local fire department arrived. Initial findings suggest that a mattress leaning against a shed had been intentionally set on fire. No injuries were reported and broader structural damage was prevented through the quick response.
Across all three events, there were no injuries reported. However, the repeated nature of the incidents and their occurrence in public and commercial areas heighten the need for community awareness and information sharing with investigators.
