RCMP Alert: Assault and Stolen SUV Collision in Dartmouth Area

RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment, with assistance from Halifax Regional Police, has charged two people after an alleged home assault in Cole Harbour and a subsequent collision involving a stolen vehicle in Dartmouth. The incident began late morning on May 7, 2026, and involved reports of a handgun, a stolen white Ford Edge, and a two-vehicle crash.

A 29-year-old man from the Halifax Regional Municipality and a 26-year-old woman from Whycocomagh were arrested following a foot pursuit after the collision. The man now faces multiple new charges and was also arrested on two outstanding warrants relating to a long list of prior allegations. Investigators emphasize that the firearm reported in this incident has not yet been recovered, and the investigation remains active.

Official Incident Details

At approximately 11:55 a.m. on May 7, 2026, officers from RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment responded to a report of an assault at a home on Poplar Dr. in Cole Harbour. Police were told that a man had been assaulted inside his residence by a man known to him. The victim reported that the suspect had a handgun and left the area in a white Ford Edge with another man and a woman.

Officers determined that the Ford Edge had been reported stolen from Cape Breton. By about 12:20 p.m., police received further information from witnesses indicating that one of the people in the vehicle was believed to have a firearm.

CrimeCanada.ca Safety Perspective

From the perspective of CrimeCanada.ca, this incident in the Nova Scotia community highlights how quickly a reported assault can escalate into a broader public safety risk involving a stolen vehicle, dangerous driving, and an outstanding firearm. Similar patterns appear in safety data from other regions of the country, including smaller communities such as Kensington (Part 2) crime statistics, where vehicle-related offences and violence can intersect. For residents in and around Cole Harbour and Dartmouth, staying alert to unusual behaviour, promptly reporting suspected stolen vehicles, and avoiding confrontation with potentially armed individuals are key steps in reducing harm. If you witness an assault, erratic driving, or see a weapon, move to a safe location and contact police rather than intervening directly. Community awareness and timely reporting are essential to preventing further violence and helping law enforcement resolve these situations quickly.
