RCMP Investigates Fatal Crash in Antigonish County

In a significant development, the Nova Scotia RCMP has referred a tragic traffic incident to the Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT). On the evening of July 18, a routine patrol on Hwy. 4 near Monastery led to a fatal accident after a vehicle evaded a traffic stop and subsequently crashed.

The incident occurred around 11:20 p.m. when an officer attempted to stop a vehicle on Cape Jack Rd. In the interest of public safety, the officer chose not to pursue when the vehicle fled. Tragically, the vehicle later left the road, resulting in the death of a 19-year-old man from Havre Boucher.

• Police disengaged the pursuit to prevent further risk to the public.
• First aid was administered promptly, but the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
