RCMP: Wanted Offender Arrested, Impaired Crash in Red Deer

On April 1–2, 2026, the Red Deer RCMP Crime Reduction Team (CRT) located and arrested a wanted repeat offender following a vehicle pursuit that began at a rural residence near Red Deer, Alberta. The suspect fled from police at high speed before officers, supported by Police Dog Services, safely stopped the vehicle and took the driver into custody on multiple outstanding warrants and new criminal charges.
While officers and tow trucks were still working at the scene of this investigation, a separate incident occurred when the driver of an SUV failed to slow down for the marked emergency vehicles and collided with the back of a stopped pickup truck, triggering a multi-vehicle crash. The 46-year-old SUV driver, a resident of Red Deer, was arrested for impaired driving and issued an immediate 90-day licence suspension. No injuries were reported in the collision.
Official Incident Details from Red Deer RCMP
On April 1, 2026, the Red Deer RCMP CRT opened an investigation to find a wanted repeat offender in the Red Deer area. The following day, April 2, 2026, officers traced the suspect to a rural residence. When police arrived, the suspect attempted to escape in a vehicle.
Officers deployed a tire deflation device, but the vehicle continued at high speed as the driver tried to evade police. With assistance from Red Deer RCMP Police Dog Services (PDS), the vehicle was ultimately stopped and the driver, a 51-year-old resident of Red Deer and the sole occupant, was arrested on multiple outstanding warrants.
In addition to those warrants, the individual was charged with:
- Operating a conveyance in a manner dangerous to the public
- Flight from a peace officer
- Possession of a controlled substance
- Driving a motor vehicle without insurance
Following a Judicial Interim Release (JIR) hearing, the accused was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer on April 17, 2026.
Impaired Driving Collision at the Same Scene
As officers and tow trucks worked on the roadway at the initial incident scene, an SUV approached but did not properly slow down or move over for the emergency vehicles displaying their lights. The SUV struck the rear of a stopped pickup truck, leading to a multi-vehicle collision.
The 46-year-old SUV driver, also a resident of Red Deer, was arrested for impaired driving. Under the Traffic Safety Act Immediate Roadside Sanctions (IRS) program, the driver received a 90-day driving suspension. RCMP report that no one was injured in the crash.
The Red Deer RCMP acknowledged the support of the Alberta RCMP Emergency Response Team (ERT), which was in the area and assisted with the original file.
