A man is facing charges after a vehicle reportedly drove toward a couple walking their dog on Henderson Highway in the RM of St. Clements, Selkirk RCMP said. Police received a dangerous driving complaint at 10:31 a.m. on November 1, 2026.

The couple and their dog were walking north when a southbound vehicle came toward them, according to police. The 42-year-old man pulled his 51-year-old partner away from the vehicle and into the ditch. Police said the driver hit the shoulder and quickly pulled away. The couple obtained a licence plate.

A man then called Selkirk RCMP and said he had seen two people dressed in black walking along the road earlier that morning. He told police he had waited until the last second to move over. The number displayed on the call was associated with the vehicle’s registered owner, police said.

Officers went to the registered owner’s home. According to police, he admitted driving toward two people earlier that day to “scare them.” Police arrested the elderly man, who then backed away from officers and resisted arrest, the RCMP said.

The man is facing charges of assault with a weapon, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and resisting arrest. He was released on conditions with a court date pending and was served with a serious offence notice for a licence review, police said.

Selkirk RCMP continue to investigate.
