CrimeCanada.ca Safety Perspective

From the perspective of CrimeCanada.ca, Silver Alerts involving older adults with dementia are time-sensitive community emergencies, not just routine missing person files. Weather changes, isolation on rural roads, and medical needs can quickly turn a disappearance into a life-threatening situation. Communities across Canada—whether in larger centres like Selkirk or smaller municipalities similar to those profiled in our local crime and safety data reports—depend on fast public response when vulnerable residents go missing.

We encourage residents to check their properties, outbuildings, parking areas, and dashcam or security camera footage from the last 24–48 hours if they are anywhere near Selkirk, Petersfield, or Stonewall. When interacting with a person who appears disoriented, speak calmly, ensure they are in a safe place, and contact 911 or Selkirk RCMP at 204-482-3322 for guidance. Community awareness and quick reporting are key to bringing Cynthia home safely and protecting other at-risk seniors in the future.
