Community Alert: Jacket Theft Suspect Sought in Whistler and Beyond
RCMP Seek Public Help After Retail Theft in Whistler
The Sea to Sky RCMP (Whistler Detachment) is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a man believed to be connected to a series of jacket thefts from retail stores across British Columbia and Alberta. The appeal follows a reported theft from a store in the Resort Municipality of Whistler on May 15, 2026, which led investigators to obtain images of a suspect.
Officers believe the same individual may be involved in multiple similar incidents involving stolen jackets from commercial businesses in several communities. To move this investigation forward, police have released a photo and description of the man and are urging anyone who recognizes him to come forward with information.

CrimeCanada.ca Safety Perspective
From the perspective of CrimeCanada.ca, thefts targeting retail stores—especially repeated, organized jacket thefts—can have a broader impact than the loss of merchandise alone. These incidents increase costs for businesses, put pressure on staff and security, and can contribute to higher prices and reduced services for residents and visitors across British Columbia. Monitoring trends in property crime, whether in busy resort areas like Whistler or communities such as Maple Ridge, British Columbia crime statistics, helps us understand where prevention and community awareness are most needed.
To reduce opportunities for theft, businesses are encouraged to review camera coverage, ensure high-value items like brand-name jackets are monitored or tagged, and train staff to report suspicious behaviour safely rather than physically intervening. Community members can support safer streets and shopping areas by staying observant in stores, noting unusual patterns of behaviour, and promptly reporting information to police or Crime Stoppers. Collaboration between local residents, visitors, retailers, and law enforcement is crucial for deterring repeat offenders and maintaining safe commercial spaces.
