Dauphin RCMP arrested a wanted man after he fled officers and entered an occupied hotel room on Nov. 4, police said. Officers had located him on a bicycle in a parking lot after learning he had been seen in the 1400 block of Main Street South at about 6:45 p.m.

Police said they tried to arrest him in the parking lot, but he fled. A short time later, officers found him outside a nearby hotel. They saw him knock on a room door and push past the person who answered.

Two officers, one from Dauphin and one from Ste. Rose du Lac, opened the door and found the man inside with the couple who had rented the room. The couple had not invited him in, according to the RCMP.

Police said the man resisted arrest before he was taken into custody. A knife was found in his jacket pocket.

Earlier break-and-enter investigation

The arrest followed an investigation into a reported break and enter at a residence in the 100 block of Main Street North. RCMP responded at about 2 a.m. on Oct. 24.

Police said electronics were stolen. Investigators determined that a man and a woman entered the residence, with the woman having a key, and left a short time later carrying large bags full of objects. Both were identified and arrest warrants were issued, police said.

Rodney McKay, 40, of Dauphin, is charged with flight from a peace officer, being unlawfully in a dwelling house, resisting a peace officer, failure to comply with a release order condition, break and enter, and theft under $5,000.

He was remanded into custody. The investigation continues.
