RCMP Alert: Fatal Pedestrian Collision in Nanaimo

In a tragic incident in Nanaimo, British Columbia, the RCMP is investigating a fatal collision where a pedestrian was struck by a motor vehicle on Departure Bay Road near Argyle Street. The incident occurred at approximately 5 PM on July 23, 2026. Emergency services, including Police, Fire crews, and BCEHS, responded promptly, but despite medical efforts, the victim succumbed to his injuries.

Preliminary findings indicate the pedestrian was standing beside his parked vehicle when an SUV veered off the road and hit him. Both individuals involved, the victim and the driver, are males in their late 70s. The driver remained and cooperated with the investigation. There are currently no suspicions of alcohol, drugs, or speed as contributing factors. The road conditions were reported to be dry and in good condition.
